Monica’s "Still Standing"

Now this year has got to be one of the most exciting for new R&B releases. First, we get the full of Brandy’s fantastic new track and then my other favourite 90s R&B diva Monica hits us with her new release “Still Standing”. Said to be produced by Bryan Michael Cox, the track features him completely on his ballad A-Game, like he was on the Day26 album, no slushy ballads for him here and thankfully, perhaps because of Sean Garrett’s absence, nothing like the mess that was “Hell No (Leave Home)” from “The Makings Of Me, instead dream-team B. Cox and veteran and extremely talented writer Adonis Shropshire provide Monica with a catchy, non-generic urban ballad. The verse from Ludacris unlike a lot of rap sections feels extremely natural (which Luda seems to be good at actually) and in what is surprisingly their first collaboration, is definitely a total success.

The album, also titled “Still Standing” is set to be released no later than December 2008 and is another of my most anticipated projects this year. I’m so glad to see talented 90s R&B chicks like Monica getting their chance to shine their proven talent well into the unpredictable R&B game of the 2000s. The album is set to feature further collabos with Babyface, Lil’ Jon, Drumma Boy, Missy Elliott, Keyshia Cole, Ne-Yo, Polow Da Don and R. Kelly, all of which I am extremely excited about, Ne-Yo and R. Kelly in particular always write hot songs for females and Missy Elliott doesn’t have to prove anything to me, her and Monica and other big voiced girls like Keyshia and Fantasia, always bring the absolute hotness on their collabos.
